12 billboards. 5 cities. One QR per creative. Total spend tracked back to the panel.

A regional brand needed scan-level attribution on a billboard buy that crossed five DMAs. They got geo-segmented dashboards their CMO could read without a tooltip.

The problem

Acme had previously bought billboards across four mid-tier metros and could not tell which panel produced the most pipeline. The CMO did not want another quarter of "ran a billboard, saw some lift, called it a success."

Northstar Creative built the campaign brief: 12 panel creatives, two per city, with a unique CTA URL per location. The constraint was that they had eight days to ship the print files. Building a per-panel attribution system in eight days using their existing martech stack was not realistic.

The workflow

  1. Define campaigns in a CSV

Spreadsheet of 12 rows: city, panel ID, destination URL with UTM params. Northstar produced it in 20 minutes from the print spec.

  2. POST /api/qrs/bulk

Single API call from the agency operations console. 12 codes minted; 207 Multi-Status came back clean. Each code returned a share_token and a CDN-ready PNG embed URL.

  3. Drop SVGs into the print deck

Designers downloaded the SVG variant of each code, dropped them into the InDesign master, sent files to the printer the same day.

  4. Track per-panel scans

GET /api/qr/{token}?stats=1 returned a 30-day daily-scan series per QR. Northstar piped them into the client deck weekly.

  5. Rotate one token in week 3

The Chicago panel destination was wrong — pointed to last year's landing. One token.rotate call on the Chicago QR redirected to the correct URL. Billboards stayed up; printed QR still scanned.

Why it mattered

Northstar billed Acme a monthly retainer for "campaign management" that included weekly scan-stats reporting. The retainer paid back faster than the buy itself because the CMO got attribution she could not get from any other panel-tracking vendor.

The token rotation saved an estimated $40k in reprint costs. Acme has since signed a year-long contract.

The Agency tier ships API, bulk upload, signed webhooks, audit export, and 5 client workspaces. Pricing is $99/month — about what the first Billboard campaign would save you in reprint costs alone.
